ABOUT BARIATRIC SURGEONS
| Sherman C. Yu,
M.D.

Dr. Sherman Yu is a native Houstonian who grew
up in the Southwest part of the city. He
attended the University of Texas at Austin where
he graduated with High Honors in Chemical
Engineering, and then returned to Houston where
he received his medical degree at Baylor College
of Medicine, with honors in his surgical
rotations.
After finishing his studies, Dr. Yu performed
his surgical training at the University of
Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. It
was there that he developed a special interest
in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgical
techniques, especially in the field of obesity
surgery. While still a resident physician, he
authored many research articles and presented at
national conferences.
Dr. Yu is also the Bariatric Medical Director at
Park Plaza Hospital in Houston, Texas and
performs single incision bariatric procedures. |
| Terry
Scarborough,
M.D.
 |
Dr. Terry Scarborough grew up in Clovis, New
Mexico. He graduated with honors from the
University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with a
degree in Pharmacy. He received his medical
degree with honors from the University of New
Mexico School of Medicine in 1993. Dr.
Scarborough completed his surgery residency at
the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and
then continued on to complete a year-long
fellowship there in laparoscopic surgery. During
that year, he authored multiple articles in the
field. After completing his surgical training
in Houston, he went back to Albuquerque and
joined New Mexico Surgical Associates where he
performed the first laparoscopic kidney
transplant in New Mexico in May 2000. In 2002,
he joined the University of Texas Medical School
at Houston and became a fellowship director in
laparoscopic surgery and was awarded for his
outstanding work with medical students.
He began performing laparoscopic Bariatric
procedures in 2002 after being trained
specifically in laparoscopic gastric banding and
laparoscopic gastric bypass. In June, 2008 Dr.
Scarborough joined Dr. Sherman Yu in private
practice with Texas Laparoscopic Consultants.
Recently, Dr. Scarborough was named one of
America's Top Surgeons by Consumers Research
Council of America. He has been a Center of
Excellence Surgeon as recognized by the Surgical
Review Corporation and is a member in good
standing of the American Society for Metabolic
and Bariatric Surgery. |
| Dexter Turnquest,
M.D.

Dr. Dexter Turnquest is a board certified General
and Bariatric Surgeon who has practiced in the
Northwest Houston area for over 14 years. Dr.
Turnquest is known for his dedication to his
patients and excellent surgical skill. He has been
honored by Texas Monthly Magazine in its Top Doctors
in Texas listing for the past four consecutive years
(peer nominated), in H Magazine's Top Doctors in
Houston as well as many additional honors.
He has served as Chairman of surgical department,
Chief of Staff and currently is the Chairman of the
Board of Trustees as well as the Medical Director of
the Weight Loss Program at Houston Northwest Medical
Center Hospital. He is past President of the North
Branch of the Harris County Medical Society and has
served on the board of the Harris County Medical
Society as well as the Houston Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Turnquest is actively involved with The Texas
Medical Association and serves on the Trauma and EMS
committee of the TMA.
Dr. Turnquest obtained his medical degree at The
University of South Florida College of Medicine,
Tampa, Florida and completed his surgical training
at the University of Texas Health Science Center -
Houston (1995). He is board certified (1996) and
recertified (2006) by the American Board of Surgery
and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeon
and of The American Society for Bariatric and
Metabolic Surgery.
His interest include general and minimally invasive
surgery, weight loss surgery, cancer, and
anti-reflux surgery. |
